Auch dieses Jahr sind wir über Silvstester bei Jess in Singapore. Sie hat sich für Silvester etwas ganz Besonderes ausgedacht und im Nox für uns und ein par Freunde reserviert. "Nox - Dine in the Dark". Ein Blindenrestaurant. Ein spannendes Unterfangen.

In der Lounge war alles noch easy (Foto). Eine freundliche Dame nahm uns in Empfang und erklärte uns den weiteren Ablauf. Danach brachte sie uns zu einer Tür, die nach oben ins Restaurant führte. Wir sollten uns mit den Händen an den Schultern Polonaise-mäßig anstellen, damit nicht gleich am Anfang ein Unfall passiert. Die Tür ging auf. Unser blinder Kellner begrüßte uns und ich (ja, ich, weil ich wieder die Mutigste sein wollte und die Polonaise angeführt hab, hui, manchmal weiß ich gar nicht wie mir geschieht!) legte meine Hände auf seine Schultern. Und dann wurde es dunkel. Richtig, richtig stockfinster. Der Blinde war nun der einzige von uns, der den Weg kannte und gut zurecht kam. Jeder von uns wurde an seinen Platz geführt. Alles war nun plötzlich schwierig. Wasser aus der Karaffe in ein Glas schenken ohne auszuschütten zum Beispiel, oder das Essen auch wirklich auf die Gabel aufzuspießen und heil in den Mund bringen...

Es war ein interessantes Erlebnis. Eines, das mich sehr zum Nachdenken gebracht hat. Wie glücklich kann ich sein, alle diese wunderschönen Farben sehen zu können! Und hallo! Plötzlich schmeckt mir das Essen kaum, wenn ich es nicht sehen kann! Das war mir neu. Meine Augen essen definitiv mit. Am Ende hat unser netter Kellner, mit der angenehmen, warmen Stimme, noch eine Weile mit uns geplaudert. Ich durfte ihn fragen, wie er träumt. Von Stimmen und Texturen. Und was für ihn "schön" ist. Das Rauschen das Meeres. Ja, da geb ich ihm Recht.

We celebrate New Years Eve with our lovely friend Jess in Singapore, just like last year. She surprised us with a very special New Years evening arrangement at "Nox. Dine in the Dark", the blind restaurant. A very interesting experience!

The evening started easy in the lounge, where we got some instructions for our blind dining event, while sipping champaign (and still being able to see!). Like ducks in a row we entered the dark restaurant, our hands on each other shoulders. I had the very adventurous first position, my hands on our blind waiters shoulders, who was now the only person getting well along in the completely dark restaurant.

Wow, it was hard to pour water in my glass without spilling, or pick up the food with a fork and find the way in my mouth.  Astonishing for me was the fact, that I enjoy food so much less, when I'm not able to see it! I'm obviously a totally visual eater!  

Afer dinner our waiter with the beautiful warm voice, allowed us to ask some personal questions. I asked him, what his dreams are about, since he never saw any pictures. He dreams of voices and textures, he told me. Also interesting for me: what would be "beautiful" for a blind man? The sound of the ocean. Well, very true.

Happy New Year everybody!!

Auf dem Weg nach Bali besuchten wir Jess, eine alte Freundin der Familie. Sie ist großartig und zeigte uns in 30 Stunden, was man in Singapore nicht missen sollte.
